RESEARCH

I am interested in the ways in which mobile devices such as mobile phones, tablets and laptops mediate and mobilise the social interactions of the transnational Filipino family in forging cohesion in this digital era. Paradoxically, despite the solidarity that is enabled by mobile device use in transnational Filipino family communication, there are ambivalences in the dynamics of mediated and mobile communication.

I am not in particular looking at Facebook, "Skyping" or any other use of communicative platforms in transnational communication. My research focuses on the interdependence of various mobility systems - mobile telephony and computer networks - in forging and sustaining distanciated relationships.

I am also looking for collaborative projects that focus on transnational Filipino family communication, communicative mobilities, mobilities for development, and mediation.

You can contact me if you have any opportunities for me to showcase my research. I would be very pleased to share or present my work. You can reach me at earvin.cabalquinto@monash.edu
